Senior Social Creative Designer + Illustrator

Harry Potter Social

Under an agency, I was the lead designer on the Warner Bros. Wizarding World of Harry Potter social retainer.

Using the merchandising guidelines, I expanded and developed a social branding playbook.

I led a team to design social assets from scratch and was the last stage of QC approvals. The assets were packaged up and shared to multiple territories for localisation.

The playbook covered:

  • Licence brand rules and legals from Warner Bros. and JK Rowling.

Visual ID - Logos, colour palette, typography, illustration, key art, imagery and more.

Designing for Wizarding World - equal hierarchy of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast, merging two brands.

  • Best practices and watchouts per social platform.

How to use templates correctly and create new templates as social platforms develop.

  • Onboarding new designers and QC checklist.

Independent training plan to practise the illustration style and motion design.

Illustration

I developed an illustration style to compliment the established brand guidelines. This resolves the limitation of not being able to feature certain characters or scenes from the franchise due to legal contract restrictions.

Christmas campaign

The brief began as one line - to create a YouTube video featuring Harry Potter gift wrapping paper.

From there, we created a concept where we’ll showcase exclusive Harry Potter merchandise being wrapped in different ways. It increased in difficulty as you watched the video.

I was responsible for:

Storyboarding and developing the concept. Establishing type of shots, transitions and the logistics to streamline the production.

Problem solved how to wrap each gift in a unique way, creating bespoke templates.

Sourcing and collaborating with a videographer and working closely together to understand the end product vision.

Dressing the set with the props, making sure it was on brand but Christmas themed.

I was the “hands” in the video, decorating the gift to add a personal touch.

Each stage was prepared beforehand (Art Attack style) to be time efficient during filming.

Art directed the shoot and the edit to ensure the final outcome stayed close to the pre-approved storyboard.

I designed the templates based on the specific products that were to be wrapped.

These were available for download, so fans can wrap their gifts at the same time.
